πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Federal Marketplace (FFM) Certification

Applies to: 31 States Using HealthCare.gov Platform (FFM & SBM-FP)

The Federal Marketplace certification is required for agents selling in states that use the HealthCare.gov platform for enrollment. This includes both Federally-Facilitated Marketplaces (FFM) and State-Based Marketplaces on the Federal Platform (SBM-FP).

Certification Steps:

  1. Obtain State License: Must be licensed to sell health insurance in your resident state with an active health Line of Authority (LOA)
  2. Register with CMS: Create account in the CMS Enterprise Portal
  3. Complete Training: Take FFM certification training through CMS MLMS or approved vendor (HealthSherpa offers free training)
  4. Pass Exam: Score 80% or higher on certification exam
  5. Sign Agreement: Execute the FFM Agent/Broker Agreement
  6. Annual Recertification: Complete shorter training annually to maintain certification
⚠️ Important Note About HealthSherpa: HealthSherpa is an Enhanced Direct Enrollment (EDE) platform that works for ALL 31 Federal Marketplace states plus Georgia. However, HealthSherpa does NOT support enrollment for the other 19 state-based marketplaces. Agents must enroll directly through those state exchanges.

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming
